Flannery O’Connor says: “I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say…” In this workshop, we will discuss developing a personal method and practice that leads toward the joy and enlightenment of writing to discover. Every pathway is personal, but all writers share the larger journey and the common community of creation. Writers may submit up to a 10-page writing sample.

Framing and organizing your story, whether long or short, can be a challenge for both new and seasoned writers. We will take a look at ideas and techniques to energize creative thinking and help you advance the process.
Our Trinity Writers Workshops are longer format with a focus on critique and discussion of writing submitted in advance by attending writers. These workshops are active participation built around participant writing submitted in advance. Fee includes submission of up to 10 pages of a writer's work for review and comment by workshop attendees and the workshop editor. Submission of a manuscript or writing samples is not required to attend the workshop. The fee includes individual, written notes from the workshop editor on submitted writing samples.
Our Write to Discover Workshops are shorter format, either in-person or online, usually focused on a particular topic, genre or theme. These workshops typically do not include discussion or critique of writing submitted in advance by writers, but there may be exceptions.
Discovery Dialogues are shorter, online format that includes teaching on a particular topic, genre or theme. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions and interact in a limited way with each other. Individual manuscripts are not accepted as part of the Discovery Dialogues.
Some Perspective On "Critique"
Critique is a friendly word among writers. Giving and receiving constructive criticism is an important part of the process for any writer. Being a good critic will make you a better writer. The writer’s workshop is always framed in the Golden Rule of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Remember, your work will be in the spotlight next and it is important to treat the work of others with the courtesy and respect it deserves and that you'd expect in return.
We know how hard it is to put your work (and by extension, yourself) on the line. But, writers have been using the workshop critique technique successfully with each other for centuries. Remember that the people who will be reviewing your work are your peers. As writers, regardless of skills level, we all face the same challenges and difficulties. Our writing isn’t perfect. We are still learning. Together, we help each other become better by sharing insights, creative suggestions and support.
